Conditions of League Play

  1. Assumption of Risk; Waiver and Release of Liability
  2. There are inherent risks to playing soccer, including but not limited to: collisions with other players or with physical objects such as goals, nets, sporting equipment, or unexpected objects or animals on the field; concussions or other head injuries; injuries from running, kicking, and soccer play; physical injuries from poor field conditions; exacerbating pre-existing known or unknown illnesses or conditions; transmission of illnesses including but not limited to COVID; other physical or mental injuries; and even death. There is no healthcare insurance through MAASL, and you are responsible for your own medical costs and any health insurance. By “accepting” the Conditions of League Play below, you assume all risks of participation, and agree to the waiver of liability.

In consideration of my being permitted to participate in the Menlo-Atherton Adult Soccer League ("MAASL") for recreational benefits, on behalf of myself, my heirs, executors, agents and administrators, I hereby waive and release any and all claims I may have against MAASL, the individual participants, players, referees, and all the board members, and other agents, and hold MAASL and all such persons free and harmless to any loss, damage, liability, injury, lost income, cost or expense that may be suffered by me while participating in MAASL, including games, practices, tournaments, social activities and any other MAASL activities.

  3. COVID Waiver and Release of Liability
  4. Playing soccer with MAASL involves a congregation of more than 20 people on a field with close contact during exercise and no social distancing during play. There is a risk of transmission to you of COVID even if masks are worn. There is a risk of transmission of COVID to you even if you and many other players are vaccinated (the league is not requiring vaccination as a condition of play).

Coronavirus (COVID) is an extremely contagious disease that spreads easily through person-to-person contact and may be spread by persons who are not exhibiting any symptoms. In general, the more people from outside their household with whom a person interacts, the closer the physical interaction is, the greater the physical exertion is, and the longer the interaction lasts, the higher the risk that a person with COVID infection may spread it to others.

COVID can cause physical and/or psychological injury, including, but not limited to, serious, permanent bodily injury, paralysis, illness, and/or death, to yourself and to anyone who could contract it from you. Participating in MAASL activities includes personal contact which carries the risk of contracting COVID.

By “accepting” the Conditions of League Play, you assume all risks of participation including the possibility that you may contract COVID, and agree to the waiver of liability that includes a waiver of any and all claims related to COVID.

  5. Concussion Awareness and Agreement
  6. Player agrees by registering that she is aware of the signs of a concussion: Headache or “pressure” in the head, Double or blurry vision, Nausea or vomiting, Balance problems or dizziness, Sensitivity to light, Sensitivity to noise, Feeling sluggish, hazy, foggy, or groggy, Concentration or memory problems, Confusion Just “not feeling right” or “feeling down.'' The onset of any of these signs could be at the time of the head injury, but they can also occur in subsequent weeks. A player who sustains a head injury during a game should not return to play until a concussion can be ruled out. Should a player suffer a concussion, she agrees to get clearance by a medical professional before resuming on-field soccer participation with MAASL.

  7. League Rules
  8. I understand that MAASL is a friendly, recreational soccer league open to players with all levels of experience, including beginners. There is no slide tackling or dangerous play allowed. If the goalie is leaning to the ground to pick up the ball, no kicking near her face/hands. Please try to keep comments to other players positive/encouraging.

As long as I am a participant in the MAASL soccer league, I will abide by its rules, regulations, and conditions as prescribed by MAASL's Board Members and the league coaches and referees.

Weekly email reminders will be sent to each player. Players must reply back, either with a yes or no so team coordinators know how many women will be participating in weekly games. Failure to reply back could result in being dropped from the session.
